VANDALIA --  Murlin Heights Elementary School Principal Connie Strehle smooched "Murlinette" the pig, but it wasn't just for hogs an kisses.

The pig kiss was an incentive for a very important cause: if students met their reading goals, Strehle would kiss a pig. The kids met their goals and Strehle good-naturedly puckered up while students and parents chanted "Kiss the Pig!"

The kiss was part of the school's annual Family Read-In Night, an event that celebrates the joy of books by inviting students and their parents to enjoy an evening of reading with the school's teachers.  It is one of many events the school hosts to recognize the importance of bringing students, their families and their teachers together to enjoy learning.
