DAYTON -- A brand new local shop is robbed three times in two weeks. They are fed up and they are hoping you can help identify who is doing this.
At 4:21 early this morning, everything is in its place at the Status Mens Boutique on East Third Downtown. In the surveillance video, you can see two men are casually strolling by; but it turns out they are actually staking out the place.
"We saw a cruiser pass by as they were surveying the place... and so you know that kind of deterred them a bit but once everything was clear and that's when they came in masked up," said Daymian McGuire, the general manager.
About 15 minutes passed and you can see one of the robbers wind-up and then smash the door, but they cannot get in the main door. The other one's on the lookout while his accomplice tries the big window. Once he smashes it., they were able to get to the mannequin and finagle it out through the glass shards. They strip the shoes off and then take off, it is a unique shoe - so general manager Daymian McGuire hopes people recognize them.
"There are some area businesses who are providing us with surveillance tapes.... but you know they're coming in, they're masked up," said McGuire.
A few weeks ago, the robbers actually got inside.
"Took a lot of merchandise, broke up a lot of the casings for the merchandise that we have," said McGuire.
They are in a historical building, so they are limited on what they can do in protecting the outside. They will work with the city on that, but for now they're taking one step at a time.
"We've definitely had our ups and downs over these first months, but all in all, like I told the guys this morning: they can steal a pair of shoes but they can't really take the vision, so we'll continue to service and provide great merchandise."
The owners are offering a $1,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. If you have information, call 333-COPS.
