The agency says 97 million American taxpayers had already submitted their tax forms by the first of this month. About 90 percent were done electronically.
The average refund is $2,755; that's down about $40 from last year.
If you owe taxes this year but you're not ready to file, you'll need to pay at least 90 percent of the amount due when you apply for an extension.
