DAYTON -- On alert everyday looking for explosives. It is one important job at the Dayton International Airport. We all know the drill with airport security. Since 9/11 it's been really tight,  with a big focus on detecting explosives.

That's where the K-9 Marco comes in.

"We're out here, we're visible, we're letting people know we're here for them," said Sgt. Ted Priest. He and Marco have been partners for about eight years now.

"Enjoy it, Nothing like coming to work with your best friend...it's awesome," said Priest

And the work is important and always busy. They check the lobby, the chairs, the luggage, and sweep as many planes as they can.

"He sees everybody doesn't let anybody get by, he's always alert," said Sgt. Price.

Sgt. Priest put some explosive powder in different spots to show us how Marco works. He found the explosives right away.

Marco gets a "good boy" and he was rewarded with a toy.

Marco's K-9 colleague Tina works much slower and she's more meticulous.

The teams are working overtime, headed to the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati to help keep people safe there.

"Obviously since the Boston incident they've been in demand," said Terry Slaybaugh, Director of Aviation.

"Just another blanket of security provided for the runners, the spectators," said Price.

With the flying Pig just weeks after the attack at the Boston Marathon. Sgt. Priest is happy the Dayton Airport K-9 teams can help give people peace of mind, and enjoy the day.

"All three of our dogs are very proud, our handlers are extremely proud to be doing what we're doing."
