CLEVELAND -- DNA evidence has confirmed that kidnapping and rape suspect Ariel Castro is the father of the 6-year-old girl reportedly born in captivity to Amanda Berry.
Berry and two other women were rescued earlier this week from a house in Cleveland after investigators say they spent about a decade held by Castro in his house.
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine made the DNA announcement today. His office also reported that Castro's DNA profile was compared to other DNA profiles but was not a match to any other cases. Other national results are still pending, however, through the FBI.
DeWine said his office received the sample of Castro's DNA late Thursday afternoon, and forensic scientists worked throughout the night to confirm the connection to Castro.
