Preparing for Severe Weather

DAYTON -- It's older trees in neighborhoods all over the Dayton area, that can cause some headaches for neighbors and DP&L crews.

"We're kind of worried because we live in a mature neighborhood ,hopefully none of those tree limbs will go down on power lines," says Tony Stayman.

As he watches his son play baseball at Patterson Park Fields, he's already hoping he strikes out when it comes to Wednesday night's pending storm.

"I just would like to wake up in the morning and maybe some debris and ready to go to work," said Stayman.

Michelle Caffey and her furry friend "Herby" are also used to trees taking a hit in their backyard.

"We have a tree near our bedroom window.  Hopefully nothing will happen with it, but I do think about that because we seem to lose some every time," said Caffey.

And it's because of that, the crews for DP&L were up in the trees, cutting down old limbs. It's something they do all year long, but especially in the spring and summer.

"One of the biggest impacts to any utility system or electrical system is tree impacts," notes Mark Vest, Operations Director for DP&L.

And as the clouds start rolling into the Miami Valley, Caffey is ready to take a dive into preparing for the storm.

"We'll probably be up and hopefully see the beginning and hopefully batten down the hatches before we go to bed," said Caffey.

Something to also keep in mind before you go to bed, make sure you have batteries for your flashlights and even candles in case the power goes out. And if it does, here's the number for DP&L to report it, call 877-4OUTAGE or 877-468-8243.
