WAPAKONETA-- After powerful thunderstorms ripped through Wapakoneta Wednesday night, many residents' homes and yards were left in shambles
âThe interior of the house is gone and the exterior is shot," said homeowner Ron Zenz, who lost his roof after the storms.
Zenzâs home was also full of water damage and even had ceilings caving in. The storms jolted Zenz and his wife out of their sleep.
"I heard the rain coming and all of a sudden it was just a huge noise and we could feel the house shaking and it just took everything from the top of our house,â said Zenz.
Zenzâs property wasnât the only one damaged in Wednesdayâs storm. Resident Doug Ewingâs shed was ruined when a neighborâs roof blew into his pickup truck.
âIt was a lot worse than I expected, last year it was just trees, this year it was a lot of homes," said Ewing.
Business signs were blown apart, and even tree limbs were ripped in half. Workers spent the afternoon cleaning up downed trees, picking up debris and repairing torn roofs. Wapakoneta residents believe that it was take a good amount of time to get things back to normal.
"My neighbor had a cedar tree it, took it up by its roots I've got limbs everywhere in my yard it's terrible down there," said resident June Sinor.
Even though there is a lot of damage in Wapakoneta, residents still try to look at the bright side.
âAt least weâre here,â said Zenz.
Fortunately some residents have homeowners insurance; however it will not cover the costs for all of the damage.
