DAYTON - A 1-year-old is in the hospital with burns after he was given a hot bath.
The lead investigator with Dayton SVU says a close relative of the victim was watching several children when this happened.
We're told the caregiver was overwhelmed and forgot to check the temperature of the water before placing the infant in the tub. A mistake investigators at this time are calling suspicious.
"We are unable to absolutely identify the source of the issue immediately. We're obviously not able to speak to an infant so we have to investigate to clarify what happened here," said Det. Larry Tolpin, Dayton PD SVU.
Investigators say the burns are only on the infants feet and are not life threatening.
Investigators tell us the person responsible for his burns could be facing charges of negligence.
The investigation is still open.
