WASHINGTON D.C. (AP) -- For the first time in decades, Congress is inching its way closer to comprehensive immigration reform.

Today, the "Gang of Eight" Republican and Democratic Senators unveiled new provisions to the bill that would double the current 21,000 member border patrol and build 700 miles of fence along the U.S./Mexican border.

Some Republicans, like Marco Rubio, say the legislation makes it too easy for undocumented immigrants to gain citizenship.

Obama Rallies Support For Immigration Reform

WASHINGTON D.C. (AP) -- President Obama is trying to rally support tonight for comprehensive immigration reform.

The Senate voted today to begin consideration of a bipartisan proposal crafted by the so-called "Gang of Eight," which would create a 13-year path to citizenship for most of the country's 11 million undocumented immigrants.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid believes "this is not an abstract debate.  It's about incredible young people who understand themselves to be Americans, done everything right but have still hampered in achieving their American dream."

Reid says he hopes to finish voting on the bill before the July 4th recess.
