DAYTON -- Child endangering charges will be filed against a grandmother after Monday's fire at an apartment complex.

When crews arrived on Dell Street, they found six children forced outside by the flames. No adult was present at the time, although the grandmother was supposed to be watching the children.

We're told the grandmother instead went to a doctor's appointment, leaving an 11-year-old in charge of the younger kids.  Fortunately, all the children are OK.

Apartment Fire Forces Families to Evacuate

DAYTON -- Several families with children were forced to evacuate after fire broke out in an Dayton apartment building.

The fire started about 2 p.m. Monday in a first-floor apartment on Dell Street.

The building, on the corner of Dell and Troy streets, has multiple apartments inside.

Fire officials tell us several families with children were all able to get out of the building safely.

Crews are working to determine a cause. They called an investigator to the scene, but haven't said whether it's suspicious.

The fire chief also tells us working in the hot temperatures made fighting the fire more difficult.
