WEST CARROLLTON--A child playing with a lighter caused a house fire West Carrollton today.
Fire officials tell us the child was playing with a lighter, when he set fire to a mattress in an upstairs bedroom.
Luckily, the fire station is right around the corner and firefighters were able to get here quickly and get the flames under control.
The fire chief stressed today the importance of educating children about fire safety.
"We have an extensive school program where we provide that in the schools... And our fire prevention officer will do some counseling with the parents and the child to see that there are no other problems and this doesn't happen again," said Chief Jack Kiester.
The fire caused about $10,000 to $15,000 in damages but there were no injuries.
