DAYTON -- It is prom season, every girl's chance to feel like a princess. But for some families, the expense is just too much. A local organization is taking care of that problem by giving away dresses for free.
There are about a thousand dresses stockpiled, awaiting a new owner. This is the Fairy Godmother Program, in partnership with Montgomery County's "Clothes that Work."
All these dresses were donated and collected by local businesses, and on Saturday they'll be handed out for free to hundreds of young women. For some girls, this program is the only reason they really get to feel like Cinderella.
"Sometimes they come in with notes attached to them. We got one from a mother that said "may the next young woman to wear this dress feel as special as my daughter did last year when she wore it." It's just an opportunity to make a great occasion for a young person," said Georgie Weossner with "Clothes that Work."
The fairy godmother project is happening Saturday March 16, 2013. It's a pre-prom party with live entertainment, snacks and vendors! It runs from 10 AM - 3 PM at the Job Center on Edwin C. Moses Boulevard. Look for door "A"
It's five years in the running, and lots of people are expected, so get there early!
