URBANA -- Police have arrested a man they say fired a gun as officers were approaching him.
Urbana Police haven't released the identity of the suspect but they say an off-duty Saint Paris police officer witnessed him with a gun during an argument about 8:35 p.m. Wednesday in an alley along the 100 block of South Main Street.
Police say no one was struck by the gunfire. The Champaign County Sheriffâs Office and Ohio Wildlife officers assisted in the search for the suspect.
A few minutes after the shooting, police said, a Champaign County Sheriff's Deputy found the suspect near the 400 block of South Kenton Street and detained him.
Police have interviewed several witnesses. They said the gun used in the shooting was discarded by the suspect during his escape attempt but was recovered and taken as evidence.
